Elementary teacher training with major practicum work/experience at the Intermediate level
Successful teaching experience teaching at the Intermediate level
Successful experience with working with EAs and parents
Have clear working knowledge and experience with early literacy supported by proven research
Have identified and practiced strategies for communicating with parents to provide feedback, and gain support and assistance in building literacy skills
Have a clear process for collecting formative and summative assessment data which support ministry outcomes and highlights students learning (i.e. grade 4 F.S.A.)
Coursework in Early Childhood Education/Learning Disabilities an asset
Familiar with teaching and implementing PM Benchmark Guided reading groups
Advanced coursework, diploma or degree in special populations (Aboriginal Education, Learning Services, English Language Learners, Social Emotional Learning) an asset
Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional learning and the implementation of high impact instructional strategies
Demonstrated ability to plan and organize curriculum, learning spaces, individualized programs
Demonstrated ability to manage the changing dynamics of a classroom, or small groups of learners
Demonstrated highly effective interpersonal and communication skills.  Must be able to communicate complex or sensitive issues in a positive manner
Demonstrated ability to manage themselves, learners and others in a conflict situation
Demonstrated ability to positively contribute to a team environment and a highly collaborative professional learning atmosphere with other teachers.  Must be able to work in a grade group team.
Demonstrated ability to engage learners at all levels
Demonstrated ability to use assessment as an effective tool for learning and charting progress and demonstrating students’ learning
Demonstrated ability to model safe, caring and inclusive behaviour and commitment to the success of all learners
Experience working with difficult to reach students and families or students and families in crisis
Successful recent teaching evaluation or practicum report
Eligible for BC Teacher Certification
