Celebrating Jenny Frederick

Clerical are often referred to as the “face” of the school; the first person students, parents, staff and guests come in contact with upon entering the building. At Upper Sumas Elementary we are very grateful and lucky that Jenny Frederick is the face of our school. Jenny’s warm and caring attitude makes for a welcoming environment for everyone who enters our building.

As a school staff, we routinely examine and reflect on our “whys”. Why do we come to school every day? Why do we choose to work in education? Jenny believes her role as a school clerical is to make sure the “face” of our school is welcoming and caring. Jenny believes by working hard to be organized and efficient, the day-to-day operations of the school can run smoothly, allowing staff to concentrate on what they do best, and not worry about the little things. Jenny does this daily, and so much more.

Jenny’s compassion and generosity are evident in her interactions with our young learners. Students find excuses throughout the day to come and say hello to Miss. Jenny and ask her for a hug. According to students, Miss. Jenny is the giver of Band-Aids, ice-packs and tooth-fairy holders. She has an answer to every question asked and is known to send home highly sought-after colouring pages.

Jenny is a team player, lending a hand and supporting her colleagues whenever a need arises. At our recent centennial anniversary, Jenny spent her evening volunteering, enlisting her family to help as well. Jenny makes a point to connect with people, showing interest in their lives, celebrating achievements with them. Jenny has an aptitude for creating efficient systems that make administrative tasks appear seamless. Jenny is always one step ahead of people’s needs. She is a problem solver, with impressive multi-tasking abilities. Jenny takes pride in her communication skills, maintaining the school website and sending out weekly email reminders to families. Her humour and ability to not take herself too seriously make the office a comfortable environment to be in.

Thank you, Jenny, for the empathy and patience you display in all your interactions. Your genuine connections make a difference in the lives of others!
