Summary:

Reporting to the Manager of International Program, the ‘Coordinator’ will be responsible for managing the District’s Homestay program by providing information and support to homestay parents and clients, as well as, recruiting and assessing potential host families to provide international students with a quality homestay experience. This position is responsible for creating and maintaining reports, records, policies and materials related to the program.

Individuals not currently employed by School District No. 34 (Abbotsford), are required to sign an "Authorization for Criminal Record Search" to permit a criminal record review.

Education & Experience:

The incumbent must have a Grade 12 diploma or equivalent, supplemented by 2 years’ post-secondary education in a recognized program (because there is no specific post-secondary training for this type of position, the academic qualifications are considered flexible).  The incumbent will have a minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a Homestay program or social services, as well as the following:

 

 

Proven ability to establish and maintain effective and positive working relationships with all internal and external contacts

Positive interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently and within a team environment

Sound understanding and awareness of cultural diversity, preferably in an educational setting

Strong knowledge of adolescent development, family/group dynamics and residential programs

Excellent communication and problem-solving skills – languages and overseas experience a strong asset

Proven ability to exercise a high level of initiative and responsibility, work independently and establish job priorities and deadlines

Ability to use tact and discretion and maintain confidentiality

Intermediate to advanced ability using Microsoft Office products, and the ability to learn other computer software programs as required

Valid class 5 British Columbia driver’s license

Must be able to work flexible hours and have your own vehicle

Proven ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, and to provide service and relationship to the public, clients and the School District in a professional, respectful, positive and courteous manner
