Summary:

The successful candidate will provide two hours of support per week to a French Immersion student.  Support will be provided in person in the student's home or virtually depending on what works best for the family. 

A hospital homebound teacher provides educational services to enable students to continue their education program while absent from school for a period during the school year because of illness or related medical reasons. The hours vary based on need and are flexible (days and/or evenings). The following responsibilities fall to the hospital/homebound teacher:  

  • Contact the student’s teacher(s) or counsellor to arrange for the provision of assignments 
  • Contact the home to set up instructional visits 
  • Liaise with the student’s classroom/course teacher(s), school, and home 
  • Pick up and return instructional materials and assignments to the school 
  • Administer quizzes and tests 
  • Mark completed work if the classroom teacher provides an answer key or scoring rubric 
  • Submit marks and feedback on student progress to the classroom teacher 
  • Will submit a Weekly Student Progress Report to keep classroom teacher(s) apprised of student’s progress 
  • Complete monthly mileage forms when traveling between assignments (does not include your initial trip from home when applicable 


Education & Experience:

  • Major practicum work in French Immersion  
  • Major/minor in French and History or related Social Science 
  • Experience teaching French Immersion at the Secondary level 
  • Experience teaching in a non-traditional setting 
  • Experience teaching in a one-on-one capacity 
  • Valid BC Driver's license 
  • Eligible for B.C. Certification 
  • Satisfactory teacher evaluation and/or final practicum reports 


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to demonstrate fluency in written and spoken French, plus a good working knowledge of English
