Board approves 2019-2020 School Calendar

The Abbotsford School District will continue to keep the two-week Spring break format for the 2019-2020 school year. At its October 9th public board meeting, the Abbotsford Board of Education passed a motion to approve and formalize the dates for the future school year calendar. This decision comes after parents and the community were invited to provide their feedback over a 4-month consultation period that ran from June 27, 2018 to October 5, 2018.

Collectively, 864 people provided feedback over the course of the consultation period, with an 89% majority in support of the proposed calendar. When broken down by segment, the Board recognized that 98% teachers and 89% of parents were in favour of the proposed calendar, which includes a two-week Spring Break.

The Abbotsford Board of Education is required to create a calendar that meets the legislated requirements of the School Act, and the Abbotsford District Teachers’ Association (ADTA) Collective Agreement. In recognition of the revised provincial curriculum, the Ministry of Education added a new “Curriculum Day” to the calendar, providing educational staff with the opportunity to participate in further professional development.

The 2019-2020 school calendar, which is subject to change, is available on the school district’s website.

All School Districts throughout British Columbia are required to confirm the school calendar for the following school year by March 31 of the current year.
