On September 20, 2022, the Abbotsford Board of Education hosted the official grand opening event of Irene Kelleher Totí:ltawtxw, the newest elementary school in the Abbotsford School District. Over 100 guests - including school trustees, government officials, district staff, students, and various community members - were in attendance to commemorate this exciting day, learn more about the building process and the history of the school's namesake, Irene Kelleher.

Today, government officials announced that September 19, 2022, would be recognized as a one-time federal holiday in honour of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's funeral service.

As such, all Abbotsford School District schools and sites will be closed on Monday, September 19, 2022.

The Abbotsford School District is committed to investing in Indigenous Education, aiming to improve Indigenous students’ success, supporting all students in learning about Indigenous peoples, and helping teachers in their efforts to infuse Indigenous knowledge and perspectives into the classroom. (Abbotsford) — The provincial government is providing $60 million in one-time funding to school districts across the province to support families with back-to-school costs. Earlier this week, the B.C. government announced they are using funding from the Student and Family Affordability Fund toward back-to-school costs to assist families struggling with the rising cost of living due to inflation.

Three Abbotsford educators have been named as finalists for the 2022 Premier’s Awards for Excellence in Education.

Joe Frew, a teacher at Terry Fox elementary, is a finalist in the category of extracurricular leadership.

Ian Levings, the principal of Eugene Reimer middle school, is a finalist in the “school leadership” category.

Nerlap Sidhu, a teacher at Eugene Reimer, is a finalist for social equity and diversity.

A $239 million-dollar balanced operating budget for the 2022-2023 school year was approved by the Abbotsford Board of Education on June 14, 2022, at their last public Board meeting for the current school year.

Thank you letter to school staff

After months of negotiations, the Abbotsford Board of Education failed to reach an agreement with the City of Abbotsford around the artificial turf sports field located at Abbotsford Senior Secondary. At the June 14, 2022 in-camera meeting, the Board determined that the ongoing capital replacement and maintenance costs necessary to maintain the artificial turf sports field Agreement with the city would significantly impact the school district's budget.

Today is a work day for Michael. He makes sure that he leaves himself plenty of time to get ready. Once he’s showered, shaved, and brushed his teeth, he gets dressed for work, making sure that he puts on his name badge. Michael also makes sure that he’s packed his own lunch. When he’s ready to go, he gives himself enough time to get to work so that he won’t be late. Today it’s a nice day, so he’ll walk to work. If it had been raining, his sister would give him a ride, something for which he is grateful.
