The Welcome Project

An on-boarding program for new employees

This series of artwork is designed to celebrate four (4) fundamental milestones achieved throughout the school year: becoming an employee of the Abbotsford School District, participating in orientation, invitations to participate in professional development, and a thank you for being a difference maker. As our employees reach each milestone, they will receive the coinciding postcard honouring their achievement.

Each postcard has a description of the artwork on the reverse side, which reads as follows:

  1. Welcome to Our Team!
Our earliest learning often involves basic shapes. This art work symbolizes the beginning of our long journey together.

  2. Let’s Do This!
The basic shapes come together to begin forming a concept through orientation. The Pi symbol, universal spiral, eye of insight, and question mark represent inquiry, foreshadowing the teacher/student growth experience.

  3. J’ai Un Question…
The stars represent our students, and the learning infusion that occurs between student and teacher creates a starburst. The three stars surrounding the Abbotsford School District logo at the bottom right are graduates – past, present, and future. The Aboriginal whale tail border honours Indigenous learning and the title “J’ai Une Question…” celebrates our French Immersion program.

  4. Yalh yexw kw’as ho:y
Thank you in Halq’emeylem, the traditional language of the Sto:lo people. The stars represent our students at the end of the school year, infused with learning and inquiry, and ready for the future!

A warm and sincere welcome is extended to all of our new employees!
